Provenance
Cut from a 20th century Navajo rug, woven somewhere across the vast territory of the American Southwest. Navajo weaving is among the most technically demanding textile traditions in the world — passed from mother to daughter, the patterns carried in memory rather than written down. The rug was made to be walked on, lived with, used. That the weave is still this tight, the color still this present, after a century of exactly that, is not surprising. It is the whole point.
The Making
Navajo rugs of this period were woven on upright looms from hand-spun wool, the weft packed so tightly that the warp disappears entirely beneath it. The geometric patterns were not decorative choices — they were compositional decisions made entirely within the structure of the weave itself, each line and angle the result of individual threads placed by hand. The natural dyes — derived from plants, minerals, and earth — were chosen for how they aged as much as how they looked. The weight and density of the cloth reflect a tradition that never distinguished between beauty and function. Here, they were always the same thing.
The Garment
Vintage-inspired fit with dropped shoulders and a slightly tapered waist. Because this is cut from a single antique textile, there will never be another one exactly like it.
