Provenance
Cut from a 19th century European grain sack. Hand woven on a narrow loom using fibers produced on the family farm, these sacks were utilitarian objects made to last — and to be claimed. Each family wove their own distinctive stripe or stamp into the cloth so sacks could be identified and returned after grain harvests.
The Making
Narrow-loom weaving is slow, physical work. A skilled weaver could produce roughly 60 cm in a single night — meaning a full sack represented days of labor from fiber grown, processed, and spun on the same farm. The repairs visible on this piece are not flaws; they are evidence of generations of use, mending, and care. In a world where cloth was expensive and nothing was wasted, a well-repaired sack was a point of pride.
The Garment
Vintage-inspired fit with dropped shoulders and a slightly tapered waist. Because this is cut from a single antique textile, there will never be another one exactly like it.
