Provenance
Cut from an early 20th-century French cover originally made to protect a padded mattress or floor bed. Textiles of this kind were practical objects within the domestic interior—used daily, carefully laundered, repaired when necessary, and kept in service for as long as possible. Its softened surface, gentle fading, and traces of wear record decades of household use.
The Making
Constructed before bedding became standardized and disposable, the cover reflects an economy in which domestic textiles were expected to endure. Its generous proportions required long, continuous lengths of cloth, while reinforced seams and a closely woven structure protected the bedding beneath. The fabric has softened through repeated use and washing, developing a hand and patina that cannot be reproduced through artificial finishing.
The Garment
Cut as a traditional chore jacket with a relaxed body, dropped shoulders, and generous patch pockets. The original seams, tonal variations, and signs of age have been incorporated thoughtfully into the garment, allowing the history of the textile to remain visible. Because it is made from a single antique French bedding cover, there will never be another one exactly like it.
