11 oz Japanese vintage drill · 19th-century European grain sack - numbered1/75
An engineer-style jacket cut from 11 oz Japanese vintage drill, 100% cotton, with three front pockets and a brown corduroy collar. Built to work, built to age.
The patch-pocket gussets are reinforced with cloth cut from a 19th-century European grain sack — hand-woven on a family farm, and chosen by hand for its history and wear.
The cloth
Cut from a 19th-century European grain sack, hand-woven on a narrow loom from fibers grown, processed, and spun on the same family farm. These sacks were utilitarian objects made to last — and to be claimed: each family wove a distinctive stripe or stamp into the cloth so their sacks could be identified and returned after the grain harvest.
Narrow-loom weaving is slow, physical work. A skilled weaver could produce roughly 60cm in a single night, so a full sack represented days of labor. The repairs visible in this cloth aren't flaws, they're evidence of generations of use, mending, and care. In a world where cloth was expensive and nothing was wasted, a well-repaired sack was a point of pride.
The fit
Vintage-inspired, with dropped shoulders and a slightly tapered waist.
Because each is cut from a single antique textile, no two will ever be exactly alike.
