Cut from a mid-to-late 1800s Japanese katazome.

Dyed in hand-ground indigo and printed using resist paste through hand-cut stencils, this katazome textile dates back to the mid-to-late 1800s. A time when craft was survival, and every motif carried meaning. The pattern is soft from time, yet precise in its repetition; evidence of the maker’s discipline and the cloth’s endurance.

Originally used for everyday garments or household items, this fabric holds the memory of utility: worn hands, sunlit fields, seasons passed. The indigo has faded to a powdery blue in places, revealing a life well lived.

22" L x 22" W

*Each neck scarf is cut from a section of the whole textile. Every cut is unique.
