Made by hand in California, from materials I find around the world.
9 oz Japanese denim · 19th-century boro futonji, Tohoku - Numbered 1/75
A denim work shirt in 9 oz Japanese denim, cut slightly cropped, with two front pockets and a front yoke. The yoke detailing are made from 19th-century Tohoku boro, hand-mended cloth with a century of life already in it.
The cloth
Boro is the northern Japanese practice of patching and re-patching worn cloth by hand, bound with sashiko stitch, until the fabric becomes a map of the family that used it. Born of scarcity in the Tohoku winters — where cotton was precious and nothing was wasted — these layered indigo textiles are now sought after the world over for exactly the history that made them: the repairs, the fades, the evidence of a life lived in the cloth. Each is unrepeatable.
The fit
A clean work-shirt cut, slightly cropped.
Built from a single piece of antique boro, chosen by hand. One of one.
